3/8/2018. I was planning to go next to Ceske Krumlov, but the hotels had no respect for my money. This being the weekend, they could not accommodate my wishes for accommodation. They had no wriggle room for one more room for a pitiful Chinese-looking Chinese. As a result, I had to go to Ceske Budejovice for a night, for my shot at Ceske Krumlov the next morning.

This little town, Ceske Budejovice, was small, like Pilsen, maybe even a little less impressive. It does have a big reputation in the United States. Heard of Budweiser? Yes, that name was said to have been stolen from here. This was a hot day, a bit abnormal, as the locals told me. No fan, no air-con, men on the street half-naked, showing off their exuberant hair growth, but it was an appropriate place and time for beer to flow freely.

This was a Friday night. I thought, thank god it’s Friday, let’s party. But there was no TGIF, no nothing. It was only about 8 or 9 p.m., and this place was eerily quiet. So, I sat down for a Western meal and got myself a Bud. I like my food served with respect. That was what I got. I started with a bowl of assorted vegetable cubes, served in a white round wide-brim plate. This was then followed by a chunk of fish beautifully tanned and crusted, garnished with three skinny sticks of asparagus that looked like Chinese calligraphy brushes, anchored in a shallow puddle of natural pan sauce gravy. This was similarly served on a bleached white round wide-brim plate. They served to tell me that the food was to be savored, not devoured.

So I took my time and sipped my bubbly Bud. It flowed well with the food. I did have mixed feelings as I sipped this stuff. Was I drinking a fake American beer or a fake Czech beer?

3/8/2018 坐火车离开皮尔森南下，一路田野风光，我车厢空空如也，可想而知下一站布节约维采(Cesky Budejovice) 是不大起眼的。两小时多后抵达布节约维采，跟皮尔森差不多只是略逊色，更小又没修饰得好。但这小镇是有点来头的。听过百威吧？对，就是美国人引以为豪的那啤酒，那名其实就是名副其实从这来的。我到此也不是慕名而来，是不得以，因要去的下一点Cesky Krumlov适逢周末而没订到房间。也好，两只脚经过布拉格折磨后也搞民主，不听上头指示，我就乘机降挡，把往常节奏放慢半拍。

最近天气大热，听本地人说有点反常，酒店没空调，也不配风扇，可能是俄罗斯給断气了，差点非裸睡不可。街上屡见大男人干脆就脱光衣服，毛茸茸的杂草丛生像只大猩猩，但都无伤大雅。

周五晚该是周末，八九点晚上怎么这么阴森，我也找不到动力，只找到闲情逸致吃了顿洋餐，点了杯百威，喉里升温，天灵盖上一头雾水 – 不知这是捷克百威还是美国百威。
