18-20/8/2018. I continued my bus ride southward along the coast, four hours later arriving in Split, a must-see beach town in Croatia.

The bus stopped at the city center facing the sea. While I came by bus, others arrived in style, their big yachts so boastfully parked at the busy waterfront, I was instantly consumed by envy.

The center looked like a melting pot, busy with arrivals and departures, sunseekers of all sorts converged here. There were also ruins left behind by the Romans. This city has a long history.

18-20/8/2018 一早搭大巴又沿海往南跑，四小时多后到了斯普利特(Split), 也是到克罗地亚必游的海边城市之一。终点站也刚好在城市中心，城市面对海，停泊无数渡轮，光观艇，还有几艘豪艇停靠抢眼码头，使人看了眼红，我看了忌火中烧。

还没抵达就可闻到这是个海洋城市。不知是有意无意，旅游大巴，港口，渡轮游艇，历史老城区，全都挤在这小小的中心。各色各样的人，各路人马，大包小包，上船下船的，上巴下巴的，有点鱼龙混杂的气氛，可是热闹，都是在陆地活得不耐烦后寻海水作乐的游客。城中心还有罗马帝国留下的城墙和遗址，都残缺不全，勉强提醒到访游客这城市的悠久历史。

I have been to many beaches around the world. This was different. When in Split, you have to be in the water, or at least near it. From the city center, I went west, taking the bus for a stop or two, but then basically just walking, enjoying a sequel of beaches, each with its own look, its own curves. I walked to about five to six. The beaches were rocky, the water calm and crystal clear. Each looked like a uniquely landscaped outdoor swimming pool—simply irresistible. You could join the crowd partying on the beach or be in solitude, licking your wound on the rocks.

这里的海滩跟去过的海滩不一样。到斯普利特肯定要玩水。如不进水，至少要近水。在市中心我沿海岸线往西走，除偶而需要乘一两段公交，海滩基本是一滩接一滩，我一口气走了五六个海滩，滩景各异，惊喜连连。在海滩你可一起跟大家凑热闹，或找个安静的大岩石呆望那静海。

在每个角落，人们都在享受这海滩的一切 – 清澈的海水，夏天的阳光，自然的环境，和彼此。我说海滩，没说沙滩，因为这儿海滩基本是小石子海滩，海水清澈见底，除大小艇做浪以外，海很平静，像处大自然户外游泳池，实在诱人。周天人也不少，可能也是夏天，旅客和当地居民都混在一起玩。

There were many sun worshipers, some on the beach, some on the rocks, anywhere one could bake themselves to a golden brown. They all sprawled on the rocks and beach like salted fish. The sun was hot, the heat stinging, but it was all worth it. The sun was free for the taking, and they were dying to look good. Oh wait, this was not the weekend; if they were all here, who was in the office working?

I wondered if they were here to enjoy the water and the sun, or to show off and be seen. The setting was right: Everyone wanted to take in as much of the sun as they could, so the scantier, the more exposed, the better. No one minded. No one cared. Feast your eyes.

The water was seductive, the sun glorious, the people partying. Sun and fun, what a celebration of summer!

有人玩水，有人把自己当咸鱼般晒。在海滩上，岸边，岩石上，各色各样，各型各态的人像海狗狮扎堆一样在炎阳下把自己又烘又烤。这太阳可不是暖阳，晒在肤上是刺痛的，只为了改变自己色调，真是用心良苦。

是晒身体还是晒身材也说不准。借着海滩，可玩水，日光浴，野餐，大显身材，各有动机。到处都是肌肉和比基尼，这是开放自由的天地，晒身材或晒身体，在这种场合，穿多少都不大会触犯底线，只不要太刺眼，无可厚非。

夏天和海滩，大好时光。这就是人生，我们应得的人生。
