13-14/11/2018. From Nairobi, I crossed into Tanzania via the border town of Namanga into Arusha, Tanzania. Arusha was a stopover town for my next safari. I paid USD 20 for that six-hour privilege. The grassland scenery on the way was complimentary, served with refreshing breezes. Why pay extra just to see the airports if you are here to see Africa?

I visited the Central Market, which surprisingly had a woman-only vendors section—a woman-empowerment project. Way to go, Africa! Arusha is Africa simplicity. Everywhere I walked, people were dressed presentably. I did not see people dressed like they were out and down, like derelicts, their clothes in tatters, their hair windswept, their faces soiled. Whether they were T-shirts, blouses, pants, jackets, or sarongs, they were in good shape and worn like the skin they were comfortable in. Sometimes they liked to add a bit of color to them to brighten their days. Locals often greeted me with “hakuna matata”—“welcome.” In all my travels, I have never been greeted by so many “how are you’s?” on the streets. Children with short curly hair, two big black eyes coyly gazed at me, waving their little hands timidly to say hello, providing a warm, fuzzy feeling that bubbled inside me.
