22-23/12/2018. From Keetmanshoop, I went on another marathon bus ride, this time a trip that took more than 15 hours, continuing south to cross the border from Namibia into South Africa, the eighth and last country on this trip.

Everyone whom I bumped into on this trip was coming to Cape town for the New Year’s celebration. Fittingly so, there was much to enjoy here—the beaches, the mountains that stared down at the beaches, the modern city and its European feel, its racial mix. The disguise in the blessings were the pickpockets and con artists who kept me on my toes, and the still, cold sea water, unfortunately. It reminded me of Rio. Though Rio is perhaps more flamboyant, the people more integrated between the races, the rocks overlooking the beaches more bizarre, the water warmer.

It has been a whirlwind adventure the past month and a half overland through Kenya, then Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and now South Africa. I was looking forward to shifting to a lower gear and taking it much easier here.
