23/9/2018 I took the train early in the morning, departing Bucharest for Brasov, a city about a couple of hours away.
This was not a big city, but it was the ideal place to take in more of Romania. The crowd was sparse, maybe summer was retreating. That made this city even more walk-easy. Anywhere I walked, I could not run away from history. Everywhere I turned, old buildings beckoned. The old churches, the museums, the palaces, the gate walls, the public square, each looked their best, despite their age. Their colors were deliberately toned down to match its rich past but not pale in comparison with the newer upstarts. They have stood still, like time has stood still for hundreds of years. They are what they were, not trying to keep up appearances. The sky remained overcast, giving the colors a duller look. But it is the perfect lighting for such an old town.
